Spring Runoff Conference

You are invited to the Ninth Annual Utah State University Water Initiative Spring Runoff Conference April 9-10, 2013 at the USU Eccles Conference Center. The theme this year is: "Water, People and Sustainability:   Integrating Physical, Social and Ecological Dimensions."  The Spring Runoff Conference provides a forum for interdisciplinary sharing and exchange of ideas on water-related issues in Utah and the Intermountain Region extending to all aspects of water science, ecology, policy, engineering and management.  Students are particularly encouraged to attend and present papers. The conference typically has about 150 participants from regional universities, state and federal agencies, as well as some invited National and International speakers.

 

If you are interested in submitting an abstract for a presentation (poster or talk) abstracts are due March 8, 2013.

81st Annual Western Snow Conference

Registration is now open for the 81st annual Western Snow Conference to be held in Jackson, Wyoming, April 15-18, 2013. The theme for this year's conference is "Wild Weather in the Wild West".

The Conference will begin Monday, April 15th with a short course and panel discussion on "New Strategies and Techniques in Long Range Streamflow Forecasting" with several invited experts in the field.  Tuesday and Wednesday will include formal paper and poster presentations on a variety of topics, including climate variability, climate change impacts on snow and runoff, water management, water supply forecasting, and modeling and climatology of snow.  Thursday will include a technical tour of natural resource management facilities in the Jackson Hole area.

Find or Share STEM Summer Research Opportunities

Though the ground may be snowy and temperatures low, it’s time for STEM educators to get the word out about their summer programs—and for students of all ages to start making their plans. The Institute for Broadening Participation’s Pathways to Science program helps connect learners with opportunities via an online, searchable database of Summer Programs in STEM, with an emphasis on reaching underrepresented groups. Several CI-WATER partner organizations have 2013 programs for kids, teens, undergraduates and graduate students in the database, with application due dates as soon as March.

Opening the door for the next generation: STEM internships in WY and UT

Sometimes all it takes to change a life is a little encouragement. If you love the challenges and rewards of science and engineering, consider reaching out to an undergrad who might benefit from an internship. Many of the CI-WATER partner organizations have resources to help students take the next step in their careers. Share them and help CI-WATER build the next generation of STEM!
