AWWA Scholarship Applications
The Intermountain Section of the American Water Works Association is pleased to announce the availability of a scholarship program to support students pursuing studies in the field of water quality, supply, and treatment in the Intermountain West.
Four separate scholarships will be available, including an undergraduate scholarship in science and engineering, two graduate scholarships in science and engineering, and a scholarship to support an outstanding minority student in the field. Awards will be given in the amounts ranging from $1,000 to $1,500. Every applicant will also be awarded a one year subscription to Journal AWWA and a one year AWWA student membership.

PSB Frontline: A Climate of Doubt
This PBS Frontline program will be aired Tuesday, October 23, 2012, 9:00 pm in Utah on KUED and on Wyoming PBS.
Four years ago, climate change was hot. Politicians from both parties, pressed by an anxious public, seemed poised to act. But that was then. Today, public opinion about the climate issue has cooled, and politicians either ignore the issue or loudly proclaim their skepticism of scientific evidence that human activity is imperiling the planet. What's behind this reversal? FRONTLINE correspondent John Hockenberry of PRI's The Takeaway goes inside the organizations that fought the scientific establishment, environmental groups, and lawmakers to shift the direction of debate on climate issues and redefined the politics of global warming.

UW Student to Help Researchers Map Hydrology of Colorado River Basin
Nels Frazier, who double majors in computer science and mathematics, is part of a team of UW researchers that will use the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC) to map the hydrology of the Colorado River Basin.
Fred Ogden, the Cline Distinguished Chair in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, and Haub School of Environmental and Natural Resources, and Craig Douglas, SER professor of mathematics and director for the Institute for Scientific Computation, will head the project, titled "CI-Water Petascale Computational Model for the Upper Colorado River Basin."
