STEM Spotlight Video: U of U's Erfan Goharian
Erfan Goharian’s drive to solve real-world problems motivates his STEM career. In this one-minute spotlight video, the CI-WATER research assistant and U of U doctoral student cites water rationing in his homeland as an inspiration for studying water resource management.
For teachers, he suggests the way to boost the pipeline of students pursuing STEM careers to help them see how their abilities can make a difference.

STEM Spotlight Video: UWyo's Wencong Lai
When asked why he chose to pursue a career in STEM, Wencong Lai says, “Interest is the best teacher.”
In this one-minute spotlight video, Wencong encourages students to find and follow their passion. He says, “Just keep your mind open and keep learning because that’s just really fun and cool.”
It’s worked for him: his love for solving problems has led him to a postdoctorate research position at the University of Wyoming, where he’s helping CI-WATER develop an innovative watershed model.

Wyoming EPSCoR's Summer Research Apprentice Program Begins
With the school year coming to a close, many students are preparing for summer jobs, vacations and relaxation. But for 22 students from around the U.S., their summer plans include participating in the 2014 Summer Research Apprentice Program (SRAP), which began on June 8th. These students are at the University of Wyoming for a six-week, intensive research program during which they will work in a lab with a mentor, conduct research and learn new concepts. Participating departments on campus include Botany, Engineering, Ecosystem Science and Management and more.
"We are proud of SRAP and the students that have come through the program," says Lisa Abeyta, Student Research Programs Coordinator. "Students have gone on to pursue their goals and achieve their dreams."

STEM Spotlight Video: UWyo's Bob Steinke
Persistence is the key to solving computer programming challenges, says Bob Steinke, a CI-WATER computer programmer. In this one-minute spotlight video, he reveals that even for professionals, computers can be “really frustrating sometimes.”
"You kind of have to stick with it until you figure out what’s going on," he says.
